A Federal High Court in Lagos presided over by Honorable Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke on Wednesday, the 29th day of January 2020, made an order of interim injunction restraining the champagne brand, Moet&Chandon from further infringing on Filmhouse Cinema’s trademark “The Film Gala” which was registered in 2019 following its successful hosting of the inaugural edition of the film industry event.

The reliefs were granted via an ex parte motion filed on behalf of Filmhouse Cinemas by Aarndale Solicitors praying the court to stop the event being organized by Moet&Chandon and tagged “2nd Annual Moet & Chandon Champagne Film Gala” scheduled to hold on Sunday, 2nd February 2020 and/or on any other scheduled date.

According to sources, Filmhouse had approached Moet&Chandon in 2018 with a sponsorship proposal for a film industry event which eventually took place on 26th of January, 2019.

While planning for the second edition of the event it was then discovered that Moet&Chandon had indeed gone ahead of Filmhouse to plan the event.

The Court Bailiffs and members of the Police Force will be available and on standby to enforce the orders of the court and curtail any attempts at flouting the orders of the Court under any guise whatsoever.

The matter has subsequently been adjourned to the 11th of February, 2020 for hearing.
