No update yet on the contract of Gernot Rohr and even the Super Eagles boss is in the dark

Rohr says he is still waiting on the NFF for update on his new contract.

With just three months left in Gernot Rohr’s contract, no one knows what the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have in mind concerning the immediate future of the Super Eagles boss.

Will Rohr get a new contract or are the NFF bringing in a new man; that is the question everyone is asking without any response.

The position of the NFF have always been that they want to retain the service of the Franc-German but under certain conditions.

We are going to domesticate Gernot Rohr in Nigeria and domesticate him to our leagues, that’s just it,” NFF boss Amaju Pinnick once said in a November 2019 interview on Channel TV’s Sunrise Daily.

He needs to move around, watch some of the league games. We are not saying take a player from here and bring him to the Super Eagles immediately.

According to another report, the NFF also want the coach to agree to be based in Nigeria before he would be given a new contract.

It is not known if the NFF have had a conversation with Rohr about these requirements or if the coach has agreed to them.

With just three months left on his contract, no one knows what the future holds for Rohr with the Super Eagles, not even the Franco-German himself

According to Nigerian-British journalist Osasu Obayiuwana who is a close confidant of Rohr, the Franco-German is still waiting for the NFF.

“I will not ask @thenff what is going on with my contract renewal (with just over 3 months left on his present deal). It’s for the NFF to approach me. I am still waiting,” Rohr is quoted to say by Obayiuwana.

My job is to focus on the @NGSuperEagles, as long as I am the coach of this team. And I am going to do just that.

“Right now, my concern is that our players in Europe stay physically fit, even when they are not playing, because of the #coronavirus situation.”

Rohr and the NFF have not seen eye to eye on several issues around Nigerian football.

The coach was served a query from the NFF in November 2019 for publicly disclosing the details of his contract while the NFF went on to make some changes to his backroom staff without his knowledge.

Rohr was first appointed by the NFF in August 2016 on a two-year contract which he renewed for another two years in January 2018.

He has managed the Eagles in 49 games with 29 wins, 11 draws and 9 losses.

The 66-year-old led Nigeria to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia where the Eagles exited in the group stages and then led the team to a bronze finish at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt.
