Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye joins Dutch club Sparta Rotterdam on a 2-year deal

Okoye gets a club in Dutch top flight after leaving German club Fortuna Dusseldorf on a free.

Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has joined Dutch club Sparta Rotterdam on a two-year deal.

Okoye’s move was confirmed by Sparta Rotterdam who announced that the deal is subject to a medical.

Sparta Rotterdam has strengthened itself, with the exception of the medical examination, with Maduka Okoye,” the Eredivisie club said on their website.

The twenty-year-old goalkeeper comes over from Fortuna Düsseldorf transfer-free and signs for two seasons, with an option for another two years.

"Happy to sign for this great and traditional Club! Can’t wait to get started with the new chapter in my career. Proud to be an Spartan!" the goalkeeper wrote on his social media.

The 20-year-old goalkeeper who was born to a Nigerian father and a German mother played second fiddle at Fortuna Dusseldorf who eventually ended up getting relegated from the Bundesliga in the 2019/2020 season.

He started his career at the youth team of Bayer Leverkusen before he joined Fortuna Dusseldorf.

The goalkeeper is a Nigerian international and has only one cap for the Super Eagles.
