Sex tape blackmail and other things Tiwa Savage said in her interview with Angie Martinez

Tiwa Savage said some interesting thing in her latest interview.

Trying to maximise her latest single, 'Somebody's Son', which has been well received, Tiwa Savage hopped on a media campaign in the United States of America to promote her record, which features her idol Brandy.

She was on Power 105.1 to speak with legendary hip-hop radio personality Angie Martinez on her latest record and dropped a revelation that has made major news.

These are five things she said.

1. Getting blackmailed with a sex tape

In a revelation that has made headlines across the country, Tiwa Savage revealed that someone is trying to extort her with a sex tape.

Although she said the video is not a sex tape, the singer did reveal that it was an intimate moment between her and her new partner.

"I'm not going to call it a sex tape but it's a video of me and the person I'm dating right now. And it got out," the singer said.

"It's recent, maybe like last month."

The 41-year-old revealed that the person is asking for money, but she insists that she does not want to pay.

"I'm not going to allow anyone to blackmail me for doing something that is natural. This is an intimate moment with someone I'm dating," the singer said.

2. New relationship

Tiwa Savage has not been in a public relationship since she split with her ex-husband Tunji 'Tee Billz' Balogun.

She has been linked with some other relationships, although she never confirmed them.

In this interview, she revealed that she has started seeing someone recently.

"He's someone I care about a lot; it's like a month. He's a sweet guy; he's very supportive," she said.

Although she refused to give more details about her new man, Tiwa Savage revealed that he is not in the entertainment industry.

3. Crazy year

Tiwa Savage suffered two huge losses in 2021; she lost a close friend, Habeeb Uthman, also known as Obama DMW, an aide of Afrobeats star Davido.

Two weeks after that, she lost her dad.

"I've had a crazy year; I lost my friend, my very close friend, my dad passed away two weeks after that," she said.

4. Her son won't be a musician

Tiwa Savage does not want her son Jamil Balogun to follow in her step and become a musician.

"Apart from the music and being able to touch people, there is a dark side to being in the limelight, and it comes with it and you deal with it, and I don't want him to go through that," she said.

5. Afrobeats not competitive as hip-hop

During a conversation about the growing Afrobeats' movement, Martinez drew a parallel with the hip-hop genre and its early days.

When Tiwa Savage spoke about watching Burna Boy at his show and intention to attend Wizkid's concert in Los Angeles, Martinez again mentioned hip-hop and how the artists in the genre were not supportive of each other in its early days like Afrobeats.

Tiwa Savage agreed and opined that Afrobeats is not competitive like hip-hop.

"I also think the genre is very competitive. When you are spitting bars, you have to diss somebody. Afrobeats isn't really like that," she said.

Talking about her dreams for the genre, Tiwa Savage said she wants to see Afrobeats stars win Grammy awards and perform at the Super Bowl.
