Arsenal: Premier League club looking at 30-year-old German coach to replace Wenger
Julian Nagelsmann led Hoffeheim to fourth spot in the Bundesliga last season
30-year-old German manager Julian Nagelsmann has been identified by Premier League team Arsenal as the man to replace Arsene Wenger.
Wenger’s position at the club has come under threat since he lost the Carabao Cup to Manchester City.
Top Coaches such as Joachim Low, Mikel Arteta and Brendan Rodgers were reported to have been shortlisted by the board to replace the French man.
However, the latest development according to the Daily Mail is that the Nagelsmann is favoured to end Wenger’s 22-year reign as Arsenal coach at the end of the season.
Nagelsmann became the youngest manager to coach in the German Bundesliga when he was appointed coach of Hoffenheim in 2016.
He led Hoffenheim clear of relegation and steered them into a Champions League position as they finished fourth in the Bundesliga.
The report states that the Arsenal hierarchy would prefer a German manger and the young Nagelsmann fulfills the necessary criteria.
The Arsenal board now has a decision to make as the Gunners are now 10 points adrift of north-London rivals Tottenham, who currently occupy the last Champions League spot.
Nagelsmann never played professional football , but turned out for 1860 Munich and Augsburg at youth level before reoccurring injuries made him quit football.
Arsenal Legend Thierry Henry has also indicated that he is “interested” if the position is vacant.
Nagelsmann now joins the list of potential replacements for Wenger, following a disappointing season.
