Dbanj: Pop star slams record label owners

Music icon, Banji Oladapo, also known as Dbanj has taken a swipe at record label owners in Nigeria.
Dbanj, who own his own record label, DB records, also said that most of the record labels in the country are owned by Yahoo Boys (fraudsters).
The music star said this in Lagos at the 2018 Social Media Week, where he spoke as one of the panelists on the topic: ‘Changing The Game: Artistes As Leaders’
Nigerian artistes lack capacity
He also identified the lack of capacity among Nigerian artistes as one of the problems plaguing the industry.
The artiste also encouraged the upcoming musicians to work hard and build their brand.
Dbanj also said that building a brand in the music industry requires diligence and consistent effort.
He said “Most of the new generation record labels are founded by Yahoo boys. You must understand first, why are you coming into music.
“Nigerian artistes need a lot of capacity building. It is only in Nigeria that the owner of a record label doesn’t know anything about music.”

“Just like any product, you must always evolve. The fear of being poor made me think outside the box. This is one of the factors that drove me into music,” he added.
Dbanj took the Nigerian music scene by storm in 2004 on the platform of Mo-hits records with his partner, Don Jazzy.
The duo later parted ways in 2012, and some say they both have not been able to make hit songs like they did back in the day.
