New Jersey Alert: Croatia unveil kits for 2018 FIFA World Cup
Croatia are aiming to progress from the group stage of the World Cup for the first time since 1998.
International kit makers Nike have unveiled the 2018 FIFA World Cup jerseys for Super Eagles opponents Croatia.
Nike used Croatian star players such Luka Modric and Mario Manduzukic to model the home and away jerseys for the World Cup.
Croatia will be participating at their third consecutive World Cup and Nike Football Apparel Senior Design Director Pete Hoppins stated that the jerseys were inspired by the countries flags.
"Croatians are also deeply proud of their heritage. This comes through in the checkered shirts, which are inspired by the national flag and viewed with envy by fans from other countries,” hoppins said.
Croatia 2018 FIFA World Cup home jersey
Croatian captain Luka Modric modeled the home jersey which is the traditional white and vibrant red checkered box shirt with a feel good slant design.
The Real Madrid midfielder was delighted with the outlook of the new kits.
He said, “With a new color scheme, the second shirt is something different. I am sure my teammates and the fans will love it. It looks daring, confident and tough; characteristics that also describes the spirit of our team,”
Croatia 2018 FIFA World Cup away jersey
Juventus striker Mario Mandzukic modled the away jersey which is contrary in colour but similar in style to the home jerseys.
The away jerseys are a mixture of “black and midnight squares.”
Croatian Football Association President Davor Å uker, stated that in their jerseys they can beat anyone.
He said, “The charm of football is that a small nation can beat a major one.”
The new Croatian jerseys will be launched in their friendly matches against Peru on Saturday, March 24 and against Mexico on Wednesday, March 28.
Croatia are in group D of the 2018 FIFA World Cup alongside Argentina, Iceland and Nigeria.
The Croatian jerseys come after the release of jerseys for group opponents Iceland and Argentina.
