Robert Lewandowski: Poland striker reveals reason for Super Eagles friendly

Poland are grouped along with Senegal, Japan and Colombia at the 2018 World Cup.
Poland Striker Robert Lewandowski has revealed the reason behind his sides friendly against the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
Lewandowski who has been in fine form for German side Bayern Munich said revealed that playing the Super Eagles is to understand the playing pattern of the west Africans in preparation for their 2018 FIFA World Cup group game against Senegal.
Poland face Senegal in their opening match of the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Tuesday, June 19 and Lewandowski is of the opinion that the 2002 FIFA World Cup quarter finalists have a similar style of play with the Eagles.
After the friendly against Nigeria, Lewandowski and his teammates will face South Korea in their second friendly game.
Speaking to the Poland Football Federation official website the Poland captain said that South Korea were selected to prepare for their final World Cup group game against Japan on Monday, June 28.
He said, “The selection of opponents was influenced by the teams we have in our group,”
The 29-year-old who was included in the Poland team for the friendlies admitted that both teams are different to their World Cup opponents but also have similarities in playing style in their region.
“Each game, however, will be different because the teams in our group have different styles.
“For us, learning these different styles will be the first lesson of what we can expect at the World Cup.” he said
The target man also reiterated that the essence of the friendly matches are to set up their preparation for the World Cup
He said, “The friendly matches itself is the first stage of preparations for the World Cup. It is a moment to check new set-up options and show quality in a non-competitive game."
Poland are ranked higher that their two friendly opponents however, Lewandowski called for seriousness against their supposed weaker opponents.
“There may be weaker matches, but if we want to present ourselves as well as possible, we must prove quality even in training,” Lewandowski said.
Poland will play Nigeria on Friday, March 23, before they take on South Korea on Tuesday, March 27.
