Super Eagles: Ighalo, Echiejile canvass for more support ahead of Serbia clash
The Super Eagles face Serbia on Tuesday, March 27 in England.
Super Eagles duo Odion Ighalo and Elderson Echiejile have called for more support for the team ahead of the friendly against Serbia.
Ighalo was in action for 90 minutes as the Super Eagles grinded out a gritty win against Poland, while Echiejile was an unused substitute.
Both players have a combined total of 70 appearances for the Super Eagles and want football supporters to continue supporting the team as they step up preparations for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
The duo made the plea in interview with Brila FM, where they thanked the fans for the support against Poland but stated that they want more against Serbia.
The 30-year-old Elderson Echiejile said, “Nigerians have been really fantastic with their support, and we are hoping to get more from them.”
Changchun Yatai striker Ighalo said, “We appreciate Nigerians, their support has been immense, but we need more prayers, and their unending support, the fans support have been really great for the team,”
Despite not playing against Poland Echiejile stated his readiness to perform when called upon.
He said, “Currently, we are happy things are positive, and we are working hard for things to be better in each game,”
“And whenever I get called upon, I am always ready to give my best, even though we are playing a friendly game, its a time to test the players, and whenever called upon, I always give my best,”
The Super Eagles take on Serbia in an International friendly on Tuesday, March 27 in at Hive Stadium England.
