Best FIFA Football Awards: Modric, Mbappe to battle Messi, Ronaldo for Player of the Year

Here are the nominees for the men's and women's FIFA Player of the Year Award.

Luka Modric and Kylian Mbappe spearhead the contenders to challenge Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi for the Men's Player of the Year at the 2018 FIFA Best Awards.

Ronaldo and Messi have dominated the  Player of the Year awards as they have won the award on the last 10 occasions.

Following 2018 FIFA World Cup nominees for the awards were announced with some new names among the shortlisted candidates.

Following a spectacular performance at the World Cup, Modric and Mbappe are the standout candidates to dethrone the duopoly of Messi and Ronaldo on the award.

Ronaldo was instrumental as Real Madrid won another Champions League, while Messi won the Spanish League but under-performed at the World Cup.

Mbappe and Modric were the star players for France and Croatia at the World Cup while Mohammed Salah also failed to get out of the group stage with Egypt.

Nominees for Men's player of the Year

The nominees for the FIFA Men’s Player 2018 are Cristiano Ronaldo, Kevin De Bruyne, Antoine Griezmann, Eden Hazard, Harry Kane, Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi, Luka Modric, Mohamed Salah and Raphael Varane.

The players were nominated for their performance between July, 3 2017 and July,15 2018.

 

Nominees for Women's player of the Year

Nominees for FIFA Women’s Player 2018 are Lucy Bronze, Pernille Harder, Ada Hegerberg, Amandine Henry, Sam Kerr, Saki Kumagai, Dzsenifer Marozsan, Marta, Megan Rapinoe and Wendie Renard.

The players were nominated for their performance between August, 7 2017 and May, 24 2018.

 

The award ceremony is scheduled to return to London on Monday, September, 24.
