Davido: Popstar says he is not interested in seeking international acceptance

In a recent interview, Davido says 'FIA' is his most touching song and stated that he is not interested in international acceptance but only pioneering the movement.

Davido says he is not interested in seeking international acceptance but only doing it as a pioneer of the movement.

The Popstar stated this in a recent interview with Pause UK magazine where he spoke on his debut into the industry, his career, future plans and how Africa is taking over the world.

Davido who has enjoyed a ground-breaking year following the success of his singles in 2017, has been travelling around the world performing at concerts and preparing for the release of his next album, which he has announced will be released in September.

Speaking on getting love from the international scene, Davido responded saying,

''To be honest, me, I’m not into this international stuff but I’m really doing it because I’m one of those people pioneering this movement. I have to put a cape on my back and do it for the culture but I always prefer being at home.''

He also advised African artists based in Europe and trying to reach out to the audience in Nigeria to come back home.

''Go to Nigeria'', he says, ''If they’re trying to reach somewhere it’s the best place to be. But it just depends, to be honest. Mr. Eazi was in London, then he came back.''

He also touched on his next plans before the end of the year, ''One of them is called 'Nwa Baby' (his next single which has been scheduled for release on Friday, August 10), and then we’re going to more festivals, we’re going to Belgium next, and then another festival in Paris, New York. There’s a lot.''

Davido says his best places he enjoys to perform the most is in Africa, ''I like Africa, anywhere in Africa, African countries.''

Off all his songs, 'FIA' is the one that touches him the most, ''There is one that I wrote, about 2 of my friends who died, that was ‘FIA.’'

The 2017 single, 'FIA' was released after the death of his friend and disc jockey, DJ Olu, just days after another of his friend, Tagbo passed away in mysterious circumstances.

Davido recently paid a tribute to DJ Olu with his performance at the Wireless Festival in London, where his set was almost cut off by the event organizers, a move Davido recollects, ''They tried to cut me off and sh*t but the crowd was like f*ck that.'' he stated.

Born Ebianga Ikpeme, DJ Ecool is also a music producer and artist, who is affiliated with Davido Music Worldwide (DMW).

In a recent interview with Pulse, DJ Ecool, who was on stage with Davido speaks on what went down at the festival.

''You see Davido wants to give the best at his performance, and the stage was built in a way that it had a hole in the middle, which was a signal for 'don't cross'.

But seeing how much the crowd was, as Davido was performing, he moved beyond the hole and that was when they tried to cut off our set, so they turned off the mic.

At this point, it was just like 17 minutes into our set and that is when Davido came back and the little argument happened, me I was already packing up my laptop sef, when all of a sudden the crowd started shouting 'FIA', that is when I immediately dropped the song and everywhere went crazy.'' he says.

Davido and Ecool will be embarking on a tour of the United States from August to September.
