Francis Uzoho: Super Eagles goalkeeper joins Spanish division 2 side Elche
Francis Uzoho will continue his development in the second tier of Spanish football.
Super Eagles first choice goalkeeper Francis Uzoho has completed a move to Elche FC from RC Deportivo de La Coruña.
The 19-year-old moves a step higher in the Spanish division as he previously featured for RC Deportivo Fabril in the Spanish Segunda B which is the third tier of football in the country, while his new club Elche play in the LaLiga 1 | 2 | 3 which is the second division.
After his performance at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia where he was in goal for all 90 minutes of the Super Eagles group stage encounters, Uzoho has decided to move and continue his development as a professional.
Elche confirmed the acquisition of Uzoho through a statement on their official website which revealed that he will undergo the routine medical protocols before his unveiling.
The message read, “Elche CF has closed the incorporation of goalkeeper Francis Uzoho to strengthen the goal franjiverde . The Club and RC Deportivo de La Coruña have agreed to the assignment for a season of the goal, which comes after playing the Russian Mundo 2018 with the National Team of Nigeria.
“The Nigerian goal will arrive on Monday in Elche and after passing the usual medical tests will join the work with the rest of the group. Welcome, Francis! ”
Uzoho made 26 appearances in goal for Deportivo Fabril last season and is expected to build on his success last season.
He also took to his official Instagram account to express his delight at the transfer.
He said, “A new journey to greatness. Thank you to everyone who made this happen...”
The young goalkeeper is among the 24-man squad called up by Gernot Rohr for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Seychelles.
