Lewis Hamilton wins Formula One title at the Mexican Grand Prix
After disappointment at the United States Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton is crowned champion at the Mexican Grand Prix.
British driver Lewis Hamilton is the winner of the 2018 Formula One after he finished fourth at the Mexican Grand Prix on Sunday, October 28.
Despite finishing fourth overall Hamilton is the new Formula One champion and now has five titles .
To be crowned winner Hamilton needed a seventh place finish in Mexico due to his points difference with second place Sebastian Vettel.
Vettel had to win in Mexico to have a chance of postponing Hamilton’s celebration fro another weekend.
With his fourth placed finish at the Autódromo Hermanos RodrÃguez, Hamilton was crowned champion.
The victory meant he moved level with Juan Manuel Fangio who also has five titles but is behind Michael Schumacher who has seven world titles in total.
Mexican Grand Prix
Max Verstappen continued his good form after finishing second to Kimi Raikkonen who won the United States Grand Prix, he was top of the podium in Mexico.
Speaking after his victory Verstappen who was the driver for the day hailed his performance and his team for getting the car in good shape.
He said, "The start was the key. I didn't sleep very well last night. Amazing job by the team, the car worked really well. It was a shame to lose Daniel."
Sebastian Vettel who finished second to Max needed a win to keep his hopes of wining alive, speaking after the race he praised Hamilton for another triumph.
He said, "Not an easy day, congrats to [Lewis] and his team, they did a superb job. I would have loved to hang in there a bit longer, but obviously it wasn't the case."
"That was the best position we could [hope for]. It's good, we always want more. We have two more races to go and we'll try to do better"
Speaking after the race Raikkonen stated that he and his team gave their best as he hailed and looked ahead to the remaining races.

Formula One standings
The result means that Hamilton is still ahead of the Drivers standing with 358 points, Vettel second with 294 and Kimi Räikkönen third overall with 236 points.
In the constructors standings Mercedes are first with 585 points, Ferrari second with 530 and Red Bull racing Tag Heuer third with 362 points.
Formula One continues with the Mexican Grand Prix scheduled for Sunday, October 28.
