Arsenal 0 Vs 3 Manchester City: 5 things we learnt from Thursday’s Premier League clash

These are five things we learnt as Arsenal were thrashed 3-0 by Manchester City.

The blue cloud hovering the Emirates Stadium thickened on Thursday, March 1 as Arsenal were beaten 3-0 for the second time in a week by Manchester City.

Bernardo Silva, David Silva and Leroy Sane all netted in the first half of Arsenal’s misery night.

These are five things we learnt from the game

1. Sane has been underrated this season

 

After struggling in his first season at Manchester City, Sane has grown to become one of their most important players although he has been often recognised as such.

Against Arsenal, Sane showed why he should be acclaimed alongside the likes of Kevin de Bruyne, Sergio Aguero and Silva.

For City’s first goal, he dashed through the Arsenal defence with fantastic dribbling skills and insane pace before laying the pass for Silva who opened the scoring for City. He scored City’s third to cap his wonderful performance of the night.

Sane’s has often times be terrifying this season, leaving defenders for dead with his pace and nimble feet.

He doesn’t pose enough goal threat like Aguero and Raheem Sterling either does he play those eye-catching passes like De Bruyne and Silva. But the width and penetration he brings to City from the left has been very important/

My favourite for the Young Player of the Year award.

2. A new low for Arsene Wenger

 

This defeat should be it for Wenger. Arsenal for years have been sinking under Wenger, but the 3-0 loss to Manchester City on Thursday is definitely a new low.

Arsenal have now lost three times to City this season and the Thursday’s 3-0 thrashing at the hands of City is second in a week by the same scoreline.  Arsenal also conceded three goals in the first half, the first time ever for a home Premier League game.

 

Wenger on the bench looked dejected, without verve, vigour and clearly without any clue about what was going on. How long is he going to continue like this?

3. Xhaka has been a waste of money

When Wenger splashed £35m on Granit Xhaka in May 2016, many thought he was a long-term solution to Arsenal’s search for a proper defensive midfielder since the days of Patrick Vieira and Gilberto Silva.

This is Xhaka’s second season at Arsenal and he has proven to be a miss. Against City, the 25-year-old was lost in the mix as City cut in and slice the Arsenal defence open effortlessly.

4. Arsenal showed little fight

 

Unlike the loss in the League Cup final on Sunday, Arsenal players in point of fact showed more fight in Thursday’s game.

The numbers from the game showed there wasn't much difference between the teams. Arsenal had four shots on target compared to City’s 5, they had 2 off target and that was more than City, more corner kicks.

What they lacked compared to City was better organisation and coaching and it was evident on Thursday. This also points to Wenger’s ineptitude.

5. Fully fit Kompany makes Manchester City stronger

Kompany is fully fit now and Manchester City are reaping the benefits. Against Arsenal, he was fantastic again, just as he was a couple of days ago at the League Cup final.

He had a passing accuracy of 85%, created one chance, won 38% of his tackles, won 67% of his aerial duels, had 5 interceptions, made four blocks and 16 clearances.

The experience and organisation he brings to the Manchester City defence are also very important.
